ANALYSIS: Readdressing Transfer Pricing in a Down Economy

In the third of a series of articles by authors from Ernst & Young LLP addressing tax issues arising in a down economy, Bob Ackerman, Dan Karen, Peyton H. Robinson, Diana Organista, and Loren Ponds look at the impact on transfer pricing systems, as well as proactive steps multinationals might take that could potentially reduce their exposure to future transfer pricing controversy. “Many companies have transfer pricing systems in place that work very well during steady economic conditions, but many of those systems do not consider the impact of an economic downturn,” the authors write. “This is not surprising, given that during the implementation of these designs, economies were growing and the recession was not yet on the horizon…”
